Project: Walking together to reduce blood sugar in the community: Innovative and culturally appropriate strategies to reduce diabetes and chronic disease in Indigenous Australians living in a remote community in Arnhem Land

Biggs group

The overall goal of the Biggs Group’s research in Indigenous Health is to save lives and improve quality of life by combating diabetes and preventing related  comorbidites  (eg heart disease and infections)  in  Arnhem Land communities.  We develop and support   preventive evidence-based programs that are community-led and build on long term relationships and shared understanding about health; in  particular, we seek to understand the risk posed by undernutrition in childhood and later malnutrition, and the impact of recurrent infections and inflammation.
