The FLAVIFLAV Study

Updated: 8, Feb 2026

Are you aged 18 years or older and have no serious immune problems?

Understanding immune responses to the Yellow Fever (YF) and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) flavivirus vaccines. We are seeking volunteers to participate in a study looking at the immune responses to two vaccines against mosquito-borne diseases.

The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity is seeking volunteers to participate in a study looking at the immune responses to two vaccines against mosquito-borne diseases.

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Yellow Fever (YF) vaccines are approved for use in Australia, and they’re important if you’re planning to spend time overseas in countries where these viruses are carried by mosquitoes.  We want to understand how the order that you receive these vaccines could change the immune response afterwards. You will be given one vaccine, and then 4 months later receive the other vaccine (either JE followed by YF, or YF followed by JE). We will collect some blood samples from you once before and five times after each vaccine.
