Updated: 13, Jan 2026

The Doherty Institute provides a world-class academic and professional environment for those pursuing careers in biomedical science and public health.

From undergraduate study and PhD research to commencing work as a postdoctoral researcher, students and early- and mid-career researchers benefit from research-led learning, expert mentorship, and access to cutting-edge facilities.

Early and mid-career researchers are supported through structured development programs, funding opportunities, and leadership initiatives such as the eMERGE Committee, which advocates for early and mid-career researchers and fosters a strong, inclusive research culture. Education is deeply integrated with the Institute’s research and public health mission, giving students and researchers the opportunity to contribute to real-world challenges and global health outcomes.

Through partnerships with leading hospitals, public health agencies, and international collaborators, the Doherty Institute offers a unique blend of academic excellence, clinical exposure, and global engagement –  preparing the next generation of leaders in science, academia, and public health.
