Dr Sarah Baines is an early career researcher with interests in microbial genomics as applied to understanding antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacterial pathogens. Her PhD explored the population and functional genomics of drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. During her postdoctoral work she has expanded her research to include various bacterial pathogens of public health interest, with a focus on enhancing detection and surveillance of complex AMR mechanisms. As a member of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Antimicroial Resistance, Sarah has been a mentor for the Fleming Fund Fellowship program; a £265 million UK-aid program supporting low/middle income countries across Africa and Asia to tackle AMR.
