Dr Mun Hua Tan

Research Fellow

Overview

Dr Mun Hua Tan is a Research Fellow at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and currently works in the laboratory of Prof. Karen Day based in Bio21. Mun Hua has over 10 years of experience in genomics and bioinformatics, developed from her work at genome centres, specialising in the study of non-model systems. Her areas of expertise include data processing, genome assembly and annotation, variant calling, phylogenetics, genetics, and data visualisation.

Upon completing her PhD in Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University in 2019, she expanded her expertise to malaria research, currently focussing on malaria surveillance, genomic epidemiology, and antigen diversity in natural parasite populations. Mun Hua enjoys working in multidisciplinary collaborations, where she frequently navigates the intersection between biology and computational analysis.
