Dr Matthew Gartner

Research Fellow

Overview

Matt completed his PhD at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University from March 2017 – Jan 2021, investigating HIV tropism and viral reservoir persistence. In October 2020, he joined Professor Kanta Subbarao’s laboratory at the Doherty Institute (University of Melbourne) to understand the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 replication in stem cell derived models of the lung and heart. He has since established methods to accurately model how and where respiratory viruses, including coronaviruses and influenza viruses replicate the human respiratory tract.
