Maria Globan's first laboratory position was at Fairfield Hospital, where she began in the Bacteriology Department. After undertaking a year-long rotation within the Mycobacterium Reference Laboratory (MRL), she became passionate about mycobacteria. She then progressed to performing RFLP typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates for epidemiological analysis and other molecular assays within the MRL. She is the current head of the Mycobacterium Reference Laboratory (MRL) at VIDRL and has been in the role since 2020.
