Dr. Zaid completed his PhD in Viral Immunology in 2009 and undertook his postdoctoral training at the University of Melbourne’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology. There, he contributed to the characterisation of tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM) and developed imaging techniques including confocal imaging and intravital multiphoton microscopy to study TRM tissue localisation and migratory behaviour. He moved to Griffith University (QLD) in 2016 to develop animal models of arbovirus skin infection and 3D whole-tissue imaging methods. In 2024, he joined the Mackay Lab to lead imaging and spatial multi-omics projects to study tissue and T cell immunity. His work is featured in over 50 publications, and he was awarded NHMRC funding (2016, 2023) and a Queensland Young Tall Poppy award (2017).
