Dr Jessica Neil completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne in the laboratory of Associate Professor Barbara Coulson, studying the effect of rotavirus infection on the development of type 1 diabetes in a mouse model. Following this, Dr Neil went to the United States to complete her postdoctoral training at the New York University School of Medicine with Associate Professor Ken Cadwell, where she studied the effects of murine norovirus infection on intestinal homeostasis and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr Neil has recently returned to Australia and joined Professor Kanta Subbarao’s Lab at the Doherty Institute to study SARS-CoV-2 infection.

  • Key Achievements
    • Dr Jessica Neil was awarded both a Sir Keith Murdoch Fellowship and Jan Vilcek/David Goldfarb Fellowship to complete her postdoctoral training in the United States. She has received four travel awards to present her work at international conferences, including a recent presentation at the 19th International Congress of Muscosal Immunology where she received an award for best presentation. Dr Neil has published 13 articles, including two reviews and first author works published in Nature Microbiology and PloS Pathogens.
