Within the framework of collaborative partnerships, the Innovation Hub at the Doherty Institute offers consultation on study design and sample processing, genomic sequencing capacity, established expertise in bioinformatics, and critical training to undertake microbial genomics research.
This approach enables laboratories across Australia to overcome barriers restricting access to this innovative technology to sequence both microbial isolates and complex biological samples. The Hub is equipped with Nanopore and Illumina sequencing platforms, and advanced robotics to enable high throughput sample sets. Analysis and data storage is supported by University of Melbourne and in-house computing resources. The Hub’s close alignment with the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory also provides access to ISO-certified workflows to produce genomic data, undertake bioinformatics analyses, and support public health and clinical reporting.
