Setting it Straight: Booster vaccine shots, staying out of hospital with Omicron and Long COVID

The question many of us are no doubt asking is: how well is vaccination protecting us against the development of Long COVID (LC) following infection with the currently circulating Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 variants?

Unfortunately, it’s too early to answer that. However, there is some evidence that vaccination can, for a time at least, lessen the likelihood that we will be infected with SARS-CoV-2. And obviously, if we don’t catch the infection, we won’t develop LC.

In this week's Setting in Straight column, Nobel Laureate Professor Doherty looks at research around the world to uncover the impact of third and fourth vaccine doses on the likelihood of infection with the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2.
