Liver Outreach in Central Australia – Hep B PAST Project

Dr. Nicole Allard supported our research collaborators from Hep B Past at Menzies last week by assisting to deliver outreach liver clinics in Central Australia. The team worked with Central Australian Aboriginal Congress  and other health staff in Mutijulu, Ntaria and Alice Springs providing a “one stop Liver shop”. The team brought an ultrasound and FibroScan® machine, provided education and review for people with liver related disease.

Researchers from WHOCCVH (Professor Benjamin Cowie, Dr Nicole Allard, Jennifer MacLachlan and Dr Ahn Nguyen) have been involved in HepB Past and now Hep B Past plus as collaborators and investigators for over 5 years. The systematic approach to providing care on country with culturally appropriate education has proven to be an effective model of care  and is the one area in Australia that have exceeded national monitoring and treatment targets.
